Book Review - Season of the Witch by Natasha Mostert
Enter the world of beauty and darkness and be prepared to be seduced as The Matrix meets Interview with a Vampire in Natasha Mostert’s new novel Season of the Witch. This Gothic thriller introduces readers to a world filled with alchemy, history, witchcraft, and theories of memory all grounded in reality using modern day computer technology. With beautiful prose and compelling characters, this novel seduces the reader into falling in love with the characters, the story, and the writer herself.
Mostert’s attention to character development allows us to identify with Gabriel, a hacker who has a paranormal psychic gift. His gift leads him to two sexy solar witches whose intelligence and gifts are superior to his own. The sisters lure him and the reader into their dark and beautiful world where it is easy to be mesmerized by their complex and intriguing existence. The plot is paced slowly at first to introduce new philosophies so that they are believable before diving into an amazing, complicated story. The climax and ending are written with such emotional momentum that the story moves even the most apathetic reader. Mostert’s writing flows like a ribbon across the page. It is obvious that extensive research went into the development of this book. Only real creative talent and meticulous attention to detail could create such a believable story and engaging characters. Season of the Witch combines a Matrix environment with an Interview with a Vampire love story that enchants the reader. With characters that are easy to love and a story written with care, Mostert delivers a classic novel that is hard to put down. Chick Lit comes in many forms. This book classifies as Chick Lit but under no circumstances would I describe this book as a trashy novel or beach read. Season of the Witch is an elegant, classy book that will likely become a classic. |
